Air New Zealand placed an order for five Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners to replace the
Boeing 767-300ER fleet.
The aircraft were announced as being in 18J/21W/263Y primarily for services to Perth
ZK-NZE, wearing black/black Fern Livery, became the first Boeing 787-9 to be delivered
to any carrier when it was accepted on June 30th 2014 and entered service as NZ103
Auckland - Sydney on August 9th 2014. However All Nippon Airways had commenced Boeing
787-9 services two days earlier.
